Here's some Florida swamp funk for ya, James Knight and the Butlers' Black Knight from the early 70's. It's hard to believe this was their one and only album, it's some super tight horn and guitar work with some burning vocals on top. Miami had some dope shit back in the day with artists such as George McCrae and Little Beaver, and this album is no exception. Dr. Furlenstein Mix

No blues or country today, returning to some funk I just had to post. The Wyld Chyld just dropped me his latest mix containing some nasty Miami funk and other dope shit. I'm posting some of the funk highlights off the mix, they also go well with the Underground Disco mix I posted last Friday. Miami's main man George McCrae's "I Get Lifted" off Rock Your Baby seen above is the jam, following is All The People with "Cramp Your Style." I'm throwing in an instrumental "Hoppin' John" by the Packers, who later became the seminal Booker T and the MG's. Thanks to J for the mix.

Little Beaver

Another old school gem from the year of 1974, Party Down by Little Beaver brings some serious soul and funk. The title track was fairly well received on the '74 R&B charts, but the real standout is "Welcome to the Party Life," which I've included along with another track "Money Vibrations." Most of you are probably wondering why he chose to be named Little Beaver, apparently it was a childhood nickname due to his large teeth. As you can tell by the album cover, Beaver got down in Miami back in the day, some real superfly shit. I've been looking for as much Miami funk as possible to feed my insatiable appetite, so hook me up if you possess anything from the sunshine state. Kick back and move to this, you won't be dissatisfied.
