ZZ Top's third album Tres Hombres released in '73 still remains a timeless classic, forget about the catchy pop hooks and lyrics of "Legs" and "Gimmie All Your Lovin'" that you heard on your local classic rock stations millions of times. This was way before the beards and fuzzy novelty guitars- it's just three dudes from Texas who created some serious dope Americana sound. I'm moving down to Austin in a couple months which is probably why this album keeps creeping back into my rotation. Soon I'll be burnin' up in that Texas heat and drinking massive amounts of Tecate listening to "Shiek" and "Waitin' For The Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago" on repeat. Finally after a 20 year hiatus, the De-Evolution is back with their 9th studio album Something For Everybody released yesterday. This is the retail version which is available in stores, while their other experimental "Song Study Version With Fan Favorites" 12 track version is only available on itunes. The two albums differ only by four tracks since there were only 17 to chose from. It's silly to say the least, but I don't really give a shit- whatever they decide to do is fine with me considering it's impossible for Devo to fuck up in my eyes. So I've taken the liberty to include their single "Watch Us Work It" which was released a couple years back that's only available on the itunes version. Now if that wasn't confusing enough for you, the album is little heavier and almost industrial in many aspects- but it's growing on me since yesterday. "Fresh," "Sumthin'," and "Cameo" are my initial highlights, but that's the beauty of Devo- they grow on you like a fungus. So put this in your earholes and let me know what you think...

The Flaming Stars

Here's a double album dip for you furls, I've been busy and a bit lazy lately- yada, yada, yada. England's the Flaming Stars haven't received much attention in the States, they are comparable to the Bad Seeds and Tom Waits except with a gritty garage edge. Here's my personal favorite compilation album Alternative Tentacles released in '01 titled Ginmill Perfume- The Story So Far 1995-2000. This comp is a great introduction to the band, it contains the best of their first four albums including "A Place In The Sun," "You Don't Always Want What You Get" and "Only Tonight." I'm also throwing in their '02 release Sunset & Void with hits including "Cash 22." Enjoy.

Marc Bolan

Mostly known as the front man for T-Rex, Marc Bolan is considered one of the originators of glam/boogie rock. Besides his sometimes overlooked great work with T-Rex, Bolan also made some solo albums and was a member of John's Children and then the folk duo Tyrannosaurus Rex before evolving into T-Rex. I recently had Justyn and Kevin drop me some Bolan, Kevin recommended his solo album from '74 The Beginning of Doves and Justyn gave me the track "The Lilac Hand of Menthol Dan" during Bolan's brief stint with John's Children in '67. The Beginning of Doves was a departure for Bolan at the time he created it, it's a bluesy-folk album with South American influences. I suggest picking up the album if possible, especially after hearing the track "Beyond the Rising Sun" which can be downloaded below. Thanks for these tracks furls.

Dust

Posting something today that I've been listening to incessantly, Dust's '71 self- titled debut album. This album is badass, these fuckers are dynamite. If this isn't enough description, the band's drummer Marc Bell later helped form a punk band a couple of you may have heard of and changed his name to Marky Ramone. I have to say that Marc Bell was a better drummer than Marky Ramone- if you don't believe me, check out "Chasin' Ladies" and "Love Me Hard" below. "Chasin' Ladies" is the definite standout here, with the lyrics All I ask of you / Is to let me go free chasin' ladies followed by a filthy guitar that fuckin' rips. Stay tuned for Dust's second album Hard Attack coming soon.

The Studebaker Bro's

It's time for some campy sing-along furlness from the Studebaker Bro's. "Lie'n In the Grave" is a shining example of why I love old fuzzy psych garage from the 60's. No more jibber-jabber, need to get back to my drank.
