Can't get enough of this band right now, here's the second album from early Pilipino rockers Juan De La Cruz band Himig Natin from '73. This album is more blues influenced than their debut, but they add some real special shit especially with the track "I Wanna Say Yeah" which is by far my favorite track right now. Juan De La Cruz

Here's your new favorite album, the heavy psych of the Philippines' Juan De La Cruz with Up In Arms from '71. This is the band's debut after forming in '68 to bring heavy rock to their native country. This album is all over the map blending flutes, piano, and saxophones into killer heavy guitar work. If you don't believe me, listen to "Requiem For A Head" and my personal favorite "Mystery Roach" with it's dirty sax woven into a fuzzy guitar riff. Cambodian Rocks

Here's the original comp that started the Cambodian Rock craze, American tourist Paul Wheeler bought a bunch of cassettes in Phnom Penh and compiled them into this compilation in 1996. Many tracks on Cambodian Rocks have western garage and psych influences blended in with a unique East Asian sound. This music was lost for years during the reign of the Khmer Rouge in which many of these musicians were killed starting in '75. A tragic story to say the least, there's a documentary in production about this story titled Don't Think I've Forgotten: Cambodia's Lost Rock and Roll that looks amazing- check out the trailer and info here. Many of the tracks deserve Nuggets notoriety, check out "Chnam oun Dop-Pram Muy(I'm 16)" by Ros Sereysothea, "Sralanh Srey Chnas(I Love Mean Girl)" by Pan Ron & In Yeng and "Rom Sue Sue(Dance Soul Soul) by Liev Tuk. The Plastics

Japan's The Plastics with "Top Secret Man" off the album Welcome Plastics from '79. The Plastics are often compared to B-52's and Talking Heads, they are credited with helping create the famous J-pop sound in the early 80's. One of the band members apparently slipped David Byrne a Plastics demo which led to the manager of the B-52's representing them internationally. I describe this band as the Devo of Japan due to their eccentric style and synth, surf induced freak-outs and social satirizing lyrics. Check out their classic SCTV video here.

Blues Creation

The Japanese band Blues Creation with their first all original album Demon and Eleven Children from '71. Eight tracks of pure heavy psych madness in the same vein as their fellow countrymen Flower Travellin' Band. Band leader, creator Kazuo Takeda was most likely listening to Sabbath, Cream, and Zeppelin during the early 70's while creating this mind fuck of a stoner album. The Spiders

The Spiders were a Japanese garage band from the '60's. Their debut album, Album No. 1 from '66 is a killer album which contains the track "Fury Fury." This track is very comparable to the Monk's sound, which is probably why I like it so much. Heavy romping minimalist beats and sing-along choruses, any furl is sure to love this shit! I've also thrown in "Go Go," a great organ induced freak-out.

Dara Puspita

I haven't posted much 60's garage yet, so next I give you the super-cute all girl Indonesian garage band Dara Puspita. These fuzzy garage pop tracks are infectious to say the least, they were Indonesia's most successful girl band of the 60's. Apparently there were many popular female singers in Indonesia during this time, but they all relied on backup bands for their albums. Each member of Dara Puspita played their own instrument and also wrote their own songs, with apparent heavy influences from the Stones and the Beatles whose music was banned in Indonesia during this time. Here is four tracks from their album A Go Go, with a couple tracks being in English and the other two tracks in Indonesian. "A Go Go," the title track is probably my favorite, but they're all really good. "To Love Somebody" and "Believe Me" are sung in English, and "Aku Tetap Sadar" in Indonesian.

The following installment is a combination of two Thai funk compilations, one track from Ted off the comp Thai funk Zudrangma Vol. 2 and three tracks off the comp Thai Pop Spectacular. Both albums are full of Thai funk rarities, check out the english translations of the names. "You Should Die By Bullets" is my personal favorite.
