It's my distinct pleasure to introduce the newest contributor to Furl Tracks, American Bandstand himself Mr. Dick Clark. He will be posting now occasionally to fill the obvious voids, so here he is:
Yes yes ya'll, we are gonna jump right on in with some funky disco goodness out of the windy city area. Captain Sky had a short lived career riding the P-Funk wave of boogie, bass and platform shoes, however in that short span he created "Super Sporm," which went on to be sampled by Public Enemy, BDP, and others. Anyway, as the Captain himself put it, climb on in the phone booth of your mind and tune in!

Big Boi/Eddy Grant

If you've been following this blog since it's inception, it is probably hard to believe I listen to much music made after '90. The truth is I do listen to a bunch of newer shit, but probably not as much as I do older cuts. To prove this, here's the latest single "Shutterbug" that leaked off Big Boi of Outkast's new solo album Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty which is supposed to drop in July. The track has an original futuristic beat fused with a 80's synth sound that caters to both conscious hip-hop and crunk fans alike. The track is firm evidence Big Boi is still all gas and no brakes with his production and rhyming skills. I'm also throwing in an underground disco joint Dick Clark just sent me by Eddy Grant titled "Time Warp," the B-side to "Electric Avenue" from '82. Thanks Clark, now where my mix at? Underground Disco Vol. 1

Yeah, that's right... Disco on Furltracks. Before you stop following this blog after this post, let me persuade you to check this mix out. I've stumbled across most of these tracks over the years accidentally with each one grabbing my attention at first listen. This mix is a listen into the underground disco scene over the last 30+ years. I guess I could label most of these tracks post-disco, but I'm not into labels. I could also say that most of these tracks have had a huge influence on hip-hop and electronic artists, but all of these tracks can stand on their own. This is a mix of dope clap beats, new and old synthy joints, space jams and plain weird shit that's a great soundtrack for a late night blown-out dance shindig. Arthur Russell

I have to give a big shout out to my main man Dick Clark for introducing me to this track a few years back, "Is It All Over My Face?" by Loose Joints is an underground disco joint put out on West End Records in "80. This track was produced by the enigmatic Arthur Russell, a composer/producer (originally from Iowa) who made some experimental disco during the tail end of the New York disco scene in the late 70's and early 80's. Many say this track is one of the foundations of house music, but I wouldn't know because I can't stand that shit. Regardless, this track is a dance floor burner, it's unique simplicity and great clap beat is sure to make you move yo' ass. If you dig this, check out Dinosaur L who consists of Loose Joints same lineup, another dope record that was produced by Russell. By the way Clark, where my next mix at?
